Blues & Haikus
“Where the gift and the wound meet, there is a sanctuary for the beautifully bent. Just take the road that runs past the sanitorium. ”
Welcome to Blues and Haikus — a home for minstrels, misfits, poets and mystics, and all other shards of broken mirrors still reflecting light.
Blues and Haikus seeks to explore the notion of a higher or perhaps primordial Americana that runs underneath the geological crust of our continent. itself is a sort of spiritual water table, or a vast network of underground rivers. So does every continent.
This higher Americana has nothing whatsoever to do with human migration; think or it as the spiritual substrata of the continent, from snout to tail lengthwise and hip to hip latitudinally. Or, alternatively, from Kaffekluben Island [Greenland] to Cocos Island (Costa Rica])
This ethereal water table runs like a vast network of underground rivers to be found somewhere between the crusty surface on which we currently walk and the molten core of the earth, ever trying to forget that we are fleas on the wing of a most restless space angel of the desire realm called North America.
This being might be evidenced in everything from ancient cave paintings, primeval myths, and in the strange and violent bewilderment that overtook the increasingly matter-bound denizens of European sea peoples.
We’ve been conditioned to think that everything good about this country can be reduced to one measure: material wealth. That is not the soul of this continent and most of us know that.
From Black Elk to Wendell Berry, let’s get back to the real deal.
Original Music – raw, rootsy, tuned straight to the spirit
Books and Writings – fractured insight turned full-blooded stories
Visual Art – outsider, intuitive, untrained, unashamed
House Concerts, Live Streams and Talks – soulful conversations, walk and talks, back porch sermons
what we up about:
This is a place for ragged prophets, homegrown wisdom, soul-deep sound, and febrile if not delirious outsider visions. Whatever is the fragile, fierce grace that makes goat-footed mad ones ‘dance the antic hay.’
